While on vacation in London in May 2016, I planned a day trip to Brussels and a day trip to Paris. Due to an error on my part, I missed my train back to London, but was able to catch train to Paris from Brussels the night before I had planned to arrive in Paris with no change of clothes. So I ventured out from my hotel on the 19th of May in second day clothes. Oh and I don't speak French. I found the Parisians to be welcoming people, none more so than at this exceptional restaurant.
One way I planned restaurants this trip as I had never ventured out of the states before is if Anthony Bourdain has eaten there. He had eaten at Au Passage. So after venturing via Metro to Montmartre, I tried to find Au Passage. Despite getting directions from several Parisians, it took me forever to locate it. When I arrived around 1:30 p.m., I found it vacant. Eventually Dave came in from another room and said they are no longer open for lunch. (Anthony Bourdain had stated they had great lunch specials when he ate there, but that's been several years ago).
Dave (who's from Texas) was able to assist me with narrowing down my overly ambitious list of planned activities as well as recommending lunch at another nearby place on my list. He even prepared a cappuccino for me. He also let me charge my dead iPhone and let me know that Au Passage opened at 7:00 and I could possibly eat there at the bar before leaving to catch my 9:00 p.m. train back to London. I did just that and what a great choice.
The whole staff, including but certainly not limited to the owner and Dave, took exquisite care of me: the owner explaining the menu to me in English, vibrant wines, serving me four exceptional tapas-style plates in the span of an hour. My first two tapas were amazing fish cakes and a beef plate. My server went above and beyond when I inquired if I could get one more plate plus dessert before I had to leave in 30 minutes. She worked with the chefs to do just that. See pictures I'll be sharing soon.
I can't wait to return. I think of the staff often and fondly since I've returned to the states. I'll be returning to London, Brussels & Paris in April 2017. However, this time I will be planning on staying overnight in Paris so I can enjoy dinner at this lovely restaurant (with a reservation this time) at my leisure on my first day in Paris.
Spent three weeks in France, in Paris and Strasbourg and ate in a lot of restaurants. Would say this was easily the best. I am a chef with 12 years experience and I can verify that the food here is among the best I have ever tried. Great atmosphere too.
Thoroughly enjoyed my evening at 'Au Passage.' Unfortunately, the first service was all booked out when I called but we managed to get in on the second service which was fine but many of the more interesting items had already disappeared off the menu. Would definitely recommend reserving in advance.
The atmosphere is great, really friendly staff and I love that you can watch what's going on in the kitchen as you're waiting for a table.
Great place to hang out, share food and make friends.
Went to this place because it was close to our hotel , was not disappointed. The place was buzzing at 830 when we arrived but we were given a very small place near the bar to wait for our table . We were greeted with smiles and understanding and waiting near their small and cramped bar was fine because the atmosphere seemed welcoming and the wine selection was vast and beautiful. We waited maybe 20 minutes for our table and was then quickly ushered to a table . The blackboard menu had an amazing array of dishes ,all of which sounded inviting . We chose a few dishes but were then tempted into more by our lovely english speaking server . Every dish was amazing from the bread ,the mussels ,the cabbage dish ,the salsify ,the scallops and etc . Not even One fault on any of the dishes , all well balanced ,perfectly cooked and presented to a Michelin standard . Overall an amazing Parisian experience a far cry from any of the tourist traps along the main roads . Highly recommended by us ,two chefs wanting a truely flavoursome diner
Absolutely good food. Staff was really helpful in explaining everything. Flavors and plates were spot on. It hit my expectations and more. It's a bit in a back alley and potentially long waits, but we avoided.
Truly a gem in the city. Small plate style and exceptional cuisine. I have never had the same thing twice and never expect to!
Not your average Parisian eatery...but definitely one to seek out.
Wine selection and menu which is written on a blackboard and changes often is exciting and delicious. Crowd is young and vibrant. Can't wait to go back with my friends and introduce them to this wonderful little place when I return to Paris in April
This is my favorite place to go to when I am in Paris:) Fresh unique dishes with excellent flavors. Small plates with a big return love it. You must go when you are here in Paris.
They served excellent dishes and staff were very friendly and helpful explaining every single item in the menu! Highly recommended to give it a try! 👍🏼
Sit at the bar - the sommelier is also exceptional!
I visited Paris for the first time in March and went to Au Passage on the recommendation of a friend. We arrived with no reservation so didn't know what to expect but we were warmly welcomed and given two seats at the bar. The staff couldn't have been nicer and the girl behind the bar kindly took the time to explain the menu to us and answer any questions. The food was simply fantastic! The wine and beer were excellent and the atmosphere and people so much fun. The best meal we had in one of the most beautiful cities in the world. The true Paris experience! Merci beaucoup Au Passage! Nous reviendrons..
Highlight of my trip. Excellent food. The owner is friendly and attempted.
Fantastic! My wife and I were in Paris for a week; truly one of the highlights of our visit was our dinner at Au Passage! Generous portions, delicious food, interesting menu, delicious desserts, great wine, lively ambience, friendly staff and, really, just a great time. We left very satisfied and look forward to our next Paris trip, just for a chance to eat here again.
Came recommended by our airbnb host. Great little place, was very popular and vibrant. Found a seat at the bar and had celeriac soup with foie gras and crab salad with a bottle of Riesling which were amazing!! Can definitely recommend! 5 stars!!
