Noodles were quite good! I was very surprised with them. Hits 5 stars for me on the noodles. The broth too was balanced and light. Not oily at all if you've been to other vietnamese pho noodle places, some have too much oil coating the top of their broth. I really appreciate that the broth didn't have that while still being full of flavor.
The meat though was slightly tough and the portion is kind of skimpy. I only got 2 slices for my entire pho bowl. The service was so so as well, but its the food thats most important to me and I did like the noodles and broth a great deal.
This place is a solid 3.5 for noodles. We came here on our first night in Paris since we took a nap and woke up pretty late. The noodles were freshly pulled and the portion was quite generous. the roasted duck over rice was very good and I'd highly recommend it. The service was fast and easy. The noodles lacked buoyancy. It does get really packed in here between locals and tourists.
Not a bad Chinese restaurant. Coming from Los Angeles where there is a bunch of Chinese food, I think this place ain't bad. Our daughter has many food allergies so it is easy to stick with Chinese food. She loves noodles too. The hand pulled noodles were so good here. They also tried accommodating to our daughter's diet where they didn't put msg and etc. We tried their pan fried noodles and rice dishes. They are pretty generous in putting vegetables and the protein of choice. Our daughter loved eating here. It was affordable too. It was about 10.50 euros per dish. The people here speak Mandarin so if you speak Chinese, you can communicate with the staff.
Must go! We were on our walk up to Moulin Rouge when I was hit with this amazing smell, I mean utter bliss. I stopped dead on the sidewalk, causing a pedestrian pile up. I noticed the smell of joy coming from les pates and at the time was not hungry but saved my appetite all day just to stop here to eat. My nose didn't let me down, the food was fresh, tasty and amazing...and cheap!
We were quickly seated in a very crowded small restaurant where they make homemade Chinese noddles in the front window. I wouldn't suggest this place for groups since most seats where for two. We ordered the vegetarian ma po tofu and Chinese veggies. Portions were good for two and we also ordered a rice. Lots of soups and real Chinese food, this wasn't a Western styled Chinese place at all.
I'm happy I came back here to eat and we both left happy and full. I also took no pics of the food since it looked so good I quickly started eating. Enjoy!
Can't go wrong with fresh hand made noodles!
Came here for lunch and it did not disappoint. We ordered 2 beers, an appetizer, and 2 main noodle dishes for 35 Euro. Cheap but Good Eats!
The spicy beef noodle dish was fragrant and comforting. There wasn't too much beef or veggies, but the broth was satisfying for a nice lunch. We also ordered the beef noodle stirfry which was both sweet and savory. It didn't have too many veggies but it was still delicious. The jellyfish cucumber appetizer was sweet and tangy - add some chile oil and it's absolutely perfect.
It's quite small and they speak limiited english but the menu translates to English. Definitely coming back!
Hawt damn. Why are their reviews so low? This is the best bowl of noodles we had in all of Paris and in all of Europe. Their stuff is made fresh and has that chewy bounce that can only be coaxed by master hands.
I guess that's why we were able to walk in every time?
The noodle bowls here are fantastic. My SO had 4 servings of noodles in every sitting. Not because he had to, but because he wanted to. He wanted to bc he couldn't stop putting their chewy carbo-goodness into his mouth.
They're not just all noodles though. Their broth is also delish. I always get the spicy beef option.
We tried their other food as well. All good enough.
Definitely come and try out their noodle soups.
They can probably make the seating a little more comfortable. It was a little hot in their restaurant.
Hand pulled noodles tasted really good whether it be stir fry or soup noodles. However, restaurant is a bit tiny and the smell of the food does get into your clothes.
I'm going to review this place for what it is: a chinese noodle restaurant in Paris. So I'm gonna cut it a little slack. I ordered the spicy beef noodle soup. The broth was sub-par with loads of MSG and salt. However, those noodles were legit. Like, the kind of noodles you get in China legit. The owner (head chef maybe?) makes the noodles herself and told me it is an old family recipe. They also gave me tons of fresh beef! The tofu was an added plus. But it's really the noodles that give this place a good review. They were so nice and chewy and just beautiful. I left happy but thirsty (salty). I'll be back to try the cold sesame noodles or maybe a more clear soup without as much additives.
Randomly ran into this place while walking to the Louvre first night in Paris around 10pm. Had what I think was twice cooked pork. Food came out quick and tasted quite authentic. Spicy and flavorful and the service and price were excellent.
I'm a Chinese my self so I have high standards for Chinese food. This restaurant serve very nice beef noodle soup, it's almost like the ones that are served in China, it's very good!
Back in July 2015, we were walking by this restaurant in Paris and saw a cook hand tossing and making noodles from scratch in the front window. I was mesmerized as to how the dough became thin strands of goodness.
Going inside, the bowl of soup that I ordered had a spicy, tasty broth and the fresh cooked noodles were absolutely delicious.
The staff were really nice and tried to accommodate us in that I spoke little French and they spoke almost no English. I'm glad I could point to the helpful pictures in their menu to order my food.
The costs were reasonable, considering the dollar did not do well against the Euro during the summer time.
Overall, I will come back to Les Pates Vivantes when visiting France for a good meal.
Heaven in Paris! I have never experienced fresh, Asian noodles as wonderful as what I had here. The restaurant caught my attention as I walked by and saw one of the chefs prepping the fresh noodles by slapping them on the counter, before dropping them in the hot water to cook. I've eaten at many very expensive restaurants in Paris, this not being one of them. It is hands down one of my favorite places and on my list to visit any time I get the chance to go to Paris.
Noodles were perfect!
Was drawn in on our way to another restaurant. Saw the chef hand-pulling the noodles. Sesame noodles are delicious. We plan to go back to try more of the menu. Very, very fast service.
TLDR: get the soup noodles, spicy beef version if you like, food preparation speed is extremely fast,
service is friendly.
The first time I came to Paris, I accidentally stumbled upon this place and were so impressed by it that we came here twice during that trip. Three years later I came back to Paris, I came again and the quality maintains. We got the two variations of spicy beef noodles, a duck stir fried noodle, and a few cold apps. I'll break down my review:
Food - noodles are cooked al dente, chewy and has good texture, soup broth is well balanced, spiciness level is manageable, stir fried noodles are average, the soup noodles are waaaay better. I would pass on the cold appetizers, they were not very impressive, but the place is known for noodles, so o wasn't surprised that the apps were underwhelming.
Service - I was most impressed by how quickly the food was served. The apps were probably premade, but the noodles were freshly made to order, so kudos to the chef, it was literally within minutes! Additionally, the staff was very friendly, took good care of us, and were responsive to requests for condiments, side dishes, etc.
My third time here in 2 visits to Paris. Chinese noodle in Paris? Absolutely. I can describe it other than that its original. Just come.
Fantastic noodles! I dream about them. My boyfriend and I never tasted noodles so good but my Chinese friend Xing said she felt right at home and that it was one of the few good Chinese restaurants in Paris! I'd definitely suggest this place to pasta lovers :)
Being asian, you get to eat tons of Chinese food in your life. Especially noodles.
Les pâtes vivantes = Living noodles are one of the best place you can try in Paris.
If i have to be honest, i will say that it is really not life changing. You won't always find that perticular flavor you get when you travel abroad and eat local food.
But for Paris, the noodles are not bad at all, plus there are pretty tasty!
Pros?
- Large portions (for Paris, if you're from the US and are use to XXL portions, you will find this usual)
- Seeing the cook make the noodles with his bare hands (if you're seated downstair)
- Tasty noodles
Cons?
- They have day and night noodle (some type of noodles can only be ordered at diner)
- The service is not always efficient, they are two people serving only. One downstair and one upstair. So better get use to waiting.
- Get's quickly crowded, even if they have a lot of seatings, it can still feel a little tight.
Price?
Count around 8-14 euros a large bowl of noodle
Ok, so sometimes even in the city of love and buttery good food you need a change. My girlfriend and I were in Paris on a much needed vacation and we'd had some pretty durn good French food throughout the trip. Still, we enjoyed walking and exploring the neighborhood near our hotel and we stumbled across Les Pâtes Vivantes one evening after we had already had dinner. We looked through the window longingly as we saw the process of the hand made noodles and we drooled despite already being stuffed We decided we'd need to make one stop during this vacation as we were both big fans of noodle dishes (everything from Pho to Ramen to Udon and so on).
We came back one night only to find the place closed for the day. Damn. Luckily we were in town for a full week. So we came back another night (I think it was a Thursday night).
We came in and sat down next to each other as we were wont to do only to get the old "no no" finger wag from the waiter. So be it, we sat across from each other. A few minutes later we found out why. This place gets packed in a heart beat.
I wasn't sure of the staff's native language but I tried my broken French and it was good enough to get us our meal. I chose the spicy noodles soup and my girlfriend chose a chicken chow mein type of plate. I wish I remembered the name of each dish. Normally I enjoy playing with the chili pastes and soy sauces and other stuff to get the right mix for my soup but I can honestly say that my soup was PERFECT. I didn't need to add anything to my dish. Wow. And my girlfriend's dish was almost as perfect. It tasted great on its own but BAM it improved with a little chili paste like nobody's business. Wow, what a meal.
The downside (as others have mentioned) is the service. Slow. No really...SLOW!!! Part of it may have to do with how busy the place gets. It's popular with the locals. We had a group of about 10 show up soon after we sat down and they lined up tables next to us and really dominated the scene. Two other women next to us on the other side had a hard time getting any water or their bill although it was pretty evident they really enjoyed their meal.
All in all, go here for the taste and not the service. This place was amazing.
On reviendra :)
