Avis sur Le Petit Verdot

Had an awesome time here. They couldn't have been more friendly. We were a large party but they accommodated us quickly. The waiter was very friendly and able to answer all our questions about the menu . I had the sweetbreads..the best. Others at the table had lamb and duck also very tasty but they didn't share much. Would recommend to everyone.

This looked like a good choice after reading the reviews so made a reservation. On arrival, on a lovely cool evening, we were informed that the outside tables were all reserved. We were then rudely told that they had been booked for some time. My question was why was I not told when I booked was met with a few other rude remarks. The inside tables were suffocating hot so we left. Was this because we were Americans? I certainly hope not but I will not recommend this restaurant.

Hm, mostly forgettable food and full of tourists. Tasty homemade limoncello served in sparkling wine as an aperitif, but uneven fish. This place prides itself on its slow-cooked meat; at the other end of the spectrum, the vegetarian plate is described only as "vegetarian plate," without mention of composition or style, which is a bit off-putting. We split the difference and ended up with two fish plates. The cod was savory, and served with excellent mashed potatoes with some sautéed veggies, but not remarkable. The Asian-themed seared tuna was significantly weaker --- too thoroughly cooked for a light searing, but not enough to be a solid tuna steak. An uncomfortable no-man's-land with tough skin on one side, and raw tuna on the other. Bottles of wine are served using a clear plastic gift bag as an ice bucket; light ice and lots of water means it melts pretty much immediately, leaving a plastic bag full of water. Perhaps OK if you're aiming for their strengths, but go elsewhere for fish or veggies.

Walked out after 20 minutes. We arrived shortly after opening and we were seated. We were the first people there & other diners started trickling in. The staff was still in set up mode as ppl were setting tables and doing other stuff. We were provided a wine menu but received no other attention from the staff for a good 20 minutes. Granted we weren't aware of the chalkboard menu, but nevertheless the staff showed no interest in interacting with us. Didn't even take a wine order, despite being provided the wine menu. Also the interior was dark & claustrophobic - not much ambiance.

We ate here on our last night in Aix. We got smashed in between two groups of American tourists (just like us!) Food was good but not the best we had during our trip. I had braised beef cheek (very tender but lacking depth of flavor) and wife had lamb shank (hers was very good but again not really superb). We ordered a Chateauneuf-du-Pape (a pricey burgundy wine) but were disappointed in the quality. Dessert was great as was the service.

We stumbled across this wonderful restaurant after being turned away from another one which required reservation. Since we arrived here early, there was a table for us. If you do not have a reservation here, be sure to show up early as it became quite busy around 8pm. The staff was so friendly and spoke excellent english. The wine recommendation was fantastic and the food was amazing! Ambiance was great - small, romantic, cozy atmosphere with soft lighting, small tables and chalkboard menu brought to the table. Will definitely be going back here!

We went here because we tried going to the nearby Le Poivre D'Ane without a reservation, and failed to get a table. Le Petit Verdot has procured favorable reviews online, but seems to be more of a hidden gem where locals dine (although we did see some other tourists beside us; perhaps it's catching on). At first, we did not expect good food here because we ordered a glass of the house Rose and it was not good. But as the colorful and tasteful dishes came, we were pleasantly surprised. For starters (12-13 euros) "barigoule d'artichaut au citron confit" (artichoke and vegetables braised in white wine) "pulpe d'aubergine ail et menthe, sot l'y laisse" (eggplant with garlic and mint, and chicken oysters) "gaspacho carotte-gingembre, espuma mascarpone curry" (carrot-ginger gazpacho with curry foam) For the mains (18-20 euros), which all came with a side of delicious seasonal vegetables "filet de St. Pierre, vinaigrette asperges vertes et pignons" (John Dory fish with asparagus, and pine nuts) "joues de boeuf confites, jus epices douces" (sweet braised beef cheeks) "dos du merlu, coulis poivron doux" (hake with sweet pepper sauce) For dessert (6 euros) strawberry gazpacho The fish, meats, and vegetables were all well-cooked, well-seasoned, and beautifully presented, well worth the price. The staff speaks English and can translate the entire menu in English. Word of advice, if you're coming early, you can get a table, but later than 8-9pm, you'd need a reservation, as it looks like there are only about 8 small outdoor tables.

I cannot recommend this restaurant more highly. The food was beautiful - provencal but modern - I had pig's cheeks in spices and prunes, and I was in food heaven. Service was the best I've experienced in Aix - the waitress translated the entire menu into English for us - our first bottle of wine smelt slightly off but tasted fine, but they gave us an entirely new bottle with no complaints. My only regret is that I didnt try the starters or desserts, but the main course and wine were excellent value for money in a pricey part of town.

Une très agréable découverte ! Un chef est vraiment à l'écoute ! Je suis végétarienne , et étant passé directement voir le restaurant dans le début d'après-midi Il m'a préparé une merveilleuse recette pour le soir Exceptionnel, un vrai délice , plein de texture et de goût ! Merci encore chef ! Pour ceux qui aiment la viande, pas de soucis , c'est extra aussi ! De plus un accueil très chaleureux et au petit soin .

Nous avons mangé ce soir avec mon mari et mon beau père le personnel est très accueillant et nous explique et propose les plats qui sont concoctés pour ce soir. Tout donnait envie de manger 😉😊 Nous avons choisi des plats et nous nous sommes régalés par la vue et par le goût c'était excellent Merci pour votre accueil et pour votre bienveillance.

Malgré l’heure tardive nous avons été accueillis avec sympathie et chaleur. Le service a été rapide et plein d’attentions, les plats étaient élégants et très savoureux, le vin de Cassis a accompagné parfaitement nos viandes. Nous sommes restés jusqu’à tard papoter et goûter notre café gourmand et on a pu profiter jusqu’au bout ! Merci pour la belle expérience !
