Driving through tree lined roads was the perfect prelude to our peaceful, relaxing stay in the countryside at the charming Le Vallon de Gayet in Mouries, France for 6 nights in May 2018. The clean, rustic but comfortable airconditioned rooms had a convenient layout allowing us to have time to rejuvenate as we prepared for our next exploration. Bathrooms and closet/storage areas were more than adequate. We sat out on the patio off the front of our room enjoying the local wine, olives, baguettes and cheeses under star filled evenings. The location in Southern France near many tourist sites allowed for beautiful and historic day trips and activities. Morning breakfast in the bar area greeted us with own personal table set in the warmth of the stone fireplace. Our day started with a delicious spread of croissants, baguettes, specialty breads, lavender honey, butter, jam, cheeses, cold meats, yogurt, eggs, omelettes, fruit, coffee, teas, milk, orange juice, granola, and cereal served by the congenial wait staff. Le Vallon de Gayet Restaurant is also renowned for the excellence of its wood-fired grill and beautifully terraced outdoor eating patio. Not only were our evening meals served in inviting settings, but the meal selections were delicious and generous. But the real value of Le Vallon de Gayet is the personnel. William and staff went above and beyond for us. Not only were they helpful and gracious with our every day needs, but they took the time to converse with us. They helped make our breakfasts and dinners not only delicious but relaxing social events. Unfortunately, a few days into our stay, I suffered a broken leg. Each of them went above and beyond by arranging doctor’s appointments, transportation to appointments for medical care, and transportation via golf cart around the grounds. William drove us to all needed medical facilities plus helped us with the language translations required for registrations and relating the diagnosis to us. The calm setting of Le Vallon de Gayet plus the superb personal attention from the staff makes this a must go to place…one we hope to return to as soon as possible. Kay Marotz
