We came across this restaurant when getting out of the main parking garage so your parking can be done very close by.
An oyster cleaning station is the first thing you will see just outside the entrance with a friendly oyster splitting gentleman smiling at you when entering the restaurant. Seafood is brought in daily from Brittany.
The service here is professional and efficient. It depends on the waiter whether it is more on the friendly- or more on the efficient side. We had both experiences here.
There is a friendly priced menu with the option of luxury foods like oysters, foie gras while paying a small extra. Other than that the menu is fixed and we were told the main course options couldn't be altered, even not with cheaper options from the menu. A little flexibility would have been nice, no deal breaker though.
For starters we shared 6 No. 4 Oysters which came on ice and bread and vinaigrette with chopped shallots was served on the side. Seasoning is left to the guest, which is just the way we like it. The oyster still needs to be cut from the shell, this adds to the freshness.
As a main course we had the Tartare de boeuf with fries and the Cabillaud which is cod fish fillet served with aioli sauce. The tartare was fresh and came already prepared with pickles, onions and capers, it tasted very good. The cod was served on a bed of vegetables such as pumpkin, sugar snaps, haricot vert, carrot and potato. On top was chopped black olive which complemented the fish nicely.
A good selection of wines per glass, carafe or bottle.
The view of the Chateau and the Theatre is stunning, in summer the terrace has the best viewpoint.
Portions are reasonably large, we chose to end the meal with coffee and after we had a walk to the Chateau we fetched Italian ice-cream from the Italian ice-cream shop around the corner from the restaurant.
Reservations are useful if you want a specific table. They seem to have a loyal local clientele which is always a good sign for the vacationing guest.
Summary based on visit in August 2016. Overall, this is a good semi-high end restaurant near the Chateau St. Germain and the city center. Slow service and a bit of an attitude from the staff, but food was excellent quality and pricing was fair, if a bit higher than expected.
We brought a group of 20 people, had a reservation and were seated fairly quickly. The restaurant is a fairly large place and located well within the city, near the city center and it's main tourist attraction the Chateau de St-Germain. They have an outside area, but we sat inside for dinner. We did kind of an attitude from the man who met us at the small-ish reception area, but it was not a big deal.
Service was slow even though we were a large group. I am basing this on European standards, not American. However, they kept the drinks fresh and the waiters were very attentive overall.
They ran out of my first choice, which was sea bass (filet de Par), so I had the cod (Pavé de cabillaud), which was very good. My colleagues were also very positive in their reviews of the food items. Dessert was had by many and comments were positive as well. The time to get served both was quite slow, as I mentioned.
Merci
